Nursing and midwifery positions

Nursing Staff:

Our registered nurses are a vital part of the way we work and we continue to do our utmost to give our nursing staff as much responsibility and autonomy as possible. For the right person who may not have all of the skills or qualifications required we will be prepared to offer some financial assistance toward training to meet our required skills level.

We believe that our nurses should:

  • work independently
  • follow through
  • actively manage diabetic patients
  • be immunisation endorsed
  • be a pap smear provider
  • have skills in wound management
  • be able to effectively utilise our computer system (Genie) to accurately record clinically significant information, recalls etc.
  • have skills in the operation of a small steriliser
  • conduct ECG and Spirometry testing
  • assist doctors with minor surgery
  • be prepared to do home visits (within a reasonable distance) for home health assessments.

Midwifery staff:

At Draper Street Family Medical we have developed a comprehensive postnatal and antenatal care program that is midwife lead. We want to continue this at Smithfield and will therefore be seeking a midwife as part of our team. As well as possessing most of the skills of our registered nurse, we would be especially seeking a midwife (midwives) who can develop and / or deliver a comprehensive level of care consistent with the requirements of the Medicare Benefits Schedule item 16400.
